The story of Sow & Piglets Brewery is short but sweet. Owner and businessman, John Moloney turned his sights on the beer industry, deciding to transform part of a local hostile he had purchased into a brewery. Julian Widera came on board just a few days after he arrived in Australia from his home country of Germany and the two set out on the laborious task of building what has quickly become a successful operation.

Embracing his new home, Julian took inspiration from its stunning coastline and history when settling on a name for the brewery. Sow & Piglets was the original name given to the limestone stacks jutting from the ocean just off shore at Port Campbell National Park. At some point as more and more travelers stopped along the Great Ocean road to witness these giant limestone beauties, the name was changed to be Twelve Apostles.

Sow & Piglets soon won the hearts of travelers and locals alike, and in early 2018, just one year after opening, a larger space was acquired to keep up with the demand for Julian’s exceptional creations. My personal favorite is the Aussie Pale Ale for its citrus notes and crisp finish. However, it is the Draught that has won them the most acclaim and brings the highest demand.

The Dunkel, Märzen, and IPA are available year-round along with the Aussie IPA and Draught. Julian’s skilled brewing brings a brightness to these traditional beers, and his creative seasonal beers are equally as fresh, joining the lineup throughout the year.
