Diving Fun Fact
The Spiny tiger shrimp is a small colorful creature that grows to only about 2 cm and goes by many names. These shrimp typically live in pairs or small families under sponges and coral. They are quite shy and rarely seen by most divers.
This shrimp likes to dine on brittle stars and can be quite fierce in capturing its prey. Despite its size, it has been know to stab a brittle star repeatedly with the sharp tip of its claws until the star is too weak to fight back and can be consumed by the shrimp. We photographed this Spiny tiger fish during a dive in Anilao, Philippines. Read more in our post, Biodiversity from the Muck to the Reef: Scuba Diving Anilao, Philippines.
