Diving Fun Fact

Sexy shrimp (Thor amboinensis), Nosy Be, Madagascar

The sexy shrimp (Thor amboinensis) gets it's common name because it is often observed shaking its tail in a raised position. They look a little bit like they are twerking.

This tiny invertebrate inhabits several species of anemones and corals in the Indo-West Pacific, feeding on detritus and dead tentacle tissue. The host provides safety from predators and food, while the shrimp provides cleaning services to the host.

We observed this shrimp inhabiting a bubble coral while diving in Nosy Be, Madagascar. Read more in our post, Whale Shark Sightings and Turquoise Waters: Scuba Diving Nosy Be, Madagascar.
