Diving Fun Fact
The Large-spotted Snake Eel (Ophichthus polyophthalmus) AKA Many-eyed Snake Eel, prefers the bottom of the sea, where it uses its pointed nose to nestle beneath the sand, waiting for prey with just its head poking out. It is a nocturnal predator, feeding at night on small fish and octopuses. It can be seen in the open reef during daylight hours, particular when mating. We were diving in Komodo, Indonesia when we first encountered these eels, exchanging what looked like a kiss. Read more in our post, What You Need to Know About Scuba Diving in Komodo Indonesia.
