Diving Fun Fact

Candy crab

The candy crab (Hoplophrys oatesi) can grow from 1.5 to 2 cm in length and is found in coral reefs throughout the Indo-Pacific region. This tiny crab uses specialized camouflage to closely mimic the colorful soft coral that it lives on. It will sometimes even grow coral polyps on its shell to blend in with its surroundings. We photographed this one in Bunaken, Indonesia on a night dive. Read more about diving here in our post, Scuba Diving Bunaken, Sulawesi.
