The Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia

The Great Ocean Road, which runs along the south coast if Victoria, Australia, was first built by troops returning from the first world war. Before the road was completed along this rugged stretch of coastline, this part of southern Australia was only accessible by a treacherous sea route or by a difficult bush track. The scenic road is home to a wide array of natural geologic formations such as these offshore pillars formed by powerful waves beating against the sheer cliffs.
